1880s
Dresses of the early 1880s were very tight, but still loaded with decoration. Bodices were very long, reaching over the hips and skirts often had
long trains. Sleeves were long and tight. Plate above is from Godey's Lady's Book, 1880.
During the mid-1880s, the bustle came back! The look was not as rounded this time, though, and sometimes the bustle looked almost flat.
By the mid-1890s, dresses had changed again!
The large leg-o-mutton sleeves of the 1830s became popular
again. Skirts were long, usually plain, with a rather triangular
shape. High collars were popular, sometimes worn with a
bow-tie or a man's tie. Big hats with tall feathers were very
fashionable.

Prominent Bustles
Assymetical (more on one side than the
other) decoration on the skirt.
