The 1880s were know for heavy trim, the return of the bustle, tight bodices and sleeves and asymmetrical trim on skirts.
1880s Bodice
The bustle first appeared in the 1870s,
then disappeared. It reappeared in the
1880s.  While this bustle has the softer
look of the 1870s, I'm dating it 1880s
by the collar, sleeves and hairstyle.
This young lady must have been
wealthy to have had such an elaborate
wedding gown.  Many 19th century
brides wore relatively simple wedding
dresses in practical colors.
Really nice example of a dress with
contrasting trim, the high and tight
neckline, fitted bodice, long tight
sleeves, and draped overskirt.
Pretty young lady with fitted basque
over pleated skirt.
